ABOUT Year of Service 2019-2020

Christ in the City is a Catholic nonprofit dedicated both to forming young adults, volunteers, and the greater community to be missionaries for life and to knowing, loving, and serving the poor.

Yearlong missionaries are the heart of Christ in the City. By giving of themselves fully for one or two years, missionaries are able to develop a personal relationship with Christ and develop genuine and consistent relationships with their homeless friends on the street. Living in community, missionaries begin each morning in prayer and celebrating the Mass together. Their faith in Christ in the foundation of their mission on the streets. In teams of three, missionaries walk the same street routes regularly. Because they walk the same routes, they are able to develop personal relationships with many of the homeless they encounter. Missionaries seek to show the homeless they are loved and to remind the homeless of their dignity. The missionary year is very formative as missionaries push themselves and each other to love more like Christ.
